Who said that in Engineering we only know how to fight with code? Last Friday, March 13th, we proved that we are also experts in strategy, virtual bowling, and, above all, in finishing off all the pizza stocks in the faculty.
After two intense technical workshops, we teamed up with our colleagues from CRUAB (UAB Role-playing Club) to organize a day of total disconnection. The result? Seminari A became too small for the gaming spirit in the room.

More than just board games
Thanks to the collaboration with CRUAB, we enjoyed an incredible selection of board games.
But the big surprise of the day was the console zone. We brought out the Wii and the Switch, and the atmosphere turned electric:
- Wii Sports: We saw tennis and bowling duels that could rival the Olympic finals. It had been a long time since we saw such healthy competition for a “Strike”!
- Mario Kart: The races were the center of all the cheering and laughter. No one wanted to finish last, and blue shells were flying all over the room.

The official fuel: Pizza for everyone!
Of course, the day was accompanied by sodas and plenty of pizza. It was the perfect moment to chat in a relaxed way, meet people from other years (from first-year to PhD), and consolidate this new group we are creating between IEEE and GDGoC UAB.

A total success (and a 5 out of 5!)
If we thought the technical events had set the bar high, the Game Day just smashed it:
- 39 attendees: New record! We surpassed our own mark once again. The family keeps growing.
- 5/5 Score ⭐: For the first time, we achieved perfect satisfaction in the surveys. Not a single “but,” just a lot of desire to do it again.
- Multidisciplinary: Seeing people from Informatics, AI, Data, and Telecommunications sharing pizza and Wii remotes is what makes all this work worthwhile.

What’s next?
This event helped us recharge our batteries before heading back into more technology. Thanks to your feedback, we are already polishing the next technical workshops under the IEEE + GDGoC label.
Stay tuned, and become a member, because after seeing how you handle Wii bowling and Karts, it’s clear to us that this branch’s level is from another galaxy.
See you at the next one! 🚀
