Stop Stress! Energy and Focus in our First Study Sprint 📚☕

Who said studying for midterms had to be a lonely torture? Last Thursday, April 9th, we transformed Seminar F at the UAB Engineering School into the perfect refuge to tackle the toughest week of the semester.

At IEEE Student Branch UAB x GDGoC, we know that the final stretch before exams requires more than just “hitting the books”: it requires an environment that boosts concentration and, above all, a good dose of caffeine and community.

Study smarter, not harder

The goal was clear: to create a space for real focus, away from home distractions or the overcrowded floors of the library. From 3:00 PM onwards, the room was filled with notes, laptops, and diagrams, but with a much more chill and collaborative atmosphere than usual.

The best part of the day wasn’t just the productive silence, but the collaborative study. It was great to see how, between coffees, spontaneous groups formed to solve those last-minute doubts about circuits, algorithms, or physics that were proving so difficult. The collective intelligence of the Engineering School at its finest!

The official fuel: The snack “Buffer” 🍪🥛

We know the brain consumes a lot of glucose when it’s in “intense processing” mode. That’s why we didn’t lack provisions to keep energy levels at their peak:

  • Assorted cookies: The perfect accompaniment for any dense reading.
  • Teas and Coffee: For those who needed that extra caffeine boost or a relaxing break.

The session by the numbers

Although it was an event designed to be quiet and productive, the response was once again fantastic:

  • 14 people fully focused and sharing knowledge.
  • 3 hours of uninterrupted productivity (with their necessary active breaks).
  • 100% camaraderie: Students from different degrees helping each other before facing the exam papers.

What’s next?

Now that midterms are here (or almost over), we want to wish you all the best of luck. This Study Sprint was just the first step to show that engineering can also be social and that supporting each other helps us go further.

Once the exam storm passes, we’ll be back in action with:

  • Technical Workshops: AI, Cloud, and software development with the GDGoC seal.
  • Hardware and Soldering: We are finalizing the details so you can get your hands on cables and boards very soon.
