Syllabus

Course description

Open Project Space (OPS) is a year-long technical course on embedded systems. We introduce engineering students to topics relevant to their studies and potential career paths: integrated circuits, breadboarding, soldering, microcontrollers, embedded programming with C++, PCB design, and hardware communication. Unlike a traditional university course, our goal is to encourage engagement with project-based learning. Students individually complete eight projects that summarize the program topics, culminating in a final project where they design and build a remote-controlled rover. Regular workshops and lectures complement the projects.

Our mission

We have two goals: First, to provide students with the fundamental skills they need to be competitive candidates for their first engineering jobs and internships. Open Project Space achieves this with regular workshops and lectures that complement the projects. We train participants in the use of soldering equipment, printed circuit board design, and reading manuals and technical specifications—skills not learned in traditional courses. Our curriculum also covers circuit analysis, programming, and embedded design concepts to give students an early overview of topics they would otherwise learn much later in their careers.

Second, we seek to support and motivate students on the path to a challenging career. We offer personalized support both in person and through regular lab sessions and online forums. We encourage students to ask questions during our lectures and workshops so they can consolidate their understanding of the course material.

Registration requirements
